Product Description

Product Description

MHECHydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (MHEC), also known as HEMC, is a nonionic cellulose ether widely used in construction applications. As a white or off-white free-flowing powder, MHEC provides excellent water retention, thickening, anti-sagging, and workability enhancement for cement-based and gypsum-based dry mix mortars, tile adhesives, wall putties, plasters, and self-leveling compounds. It dissolves quickly in cold water and maintains stable viscosity across a wide pH range, ensuring consistent performance in building material formulations.

Application Scenarios

FAQ Q1. What is the main function of MHEC in cement-based tile adhesives?
MHEC provides excellent water retention, which prevents the cement slurry from drying too quickly. It also improves open time, workability, and anti-sagging properties, ensuring stronger adhesion of tiles to the substrate.Q2. How does MHEC differ from HPMC in construction applications?
MHEC generally offers higher gel temperature (>80°C) and better salt resistance compared to HPMC. It also shows more stable viscosity under alkaline conditions, making it especially suitable for cement and lime based building materials.Q3. Is MHEC soluble in cold water?
Yes, MHEC is fast cold water soluble. It disperses easily and quickly hydrates to form a clear, viscous solution without the need for heating, which simplifies the mixing process in dry mix mortar production.Q4. What is the recommended dosage of MHEC in dry mix mortars?
The typical dosage ranges from 0.1% to 0.5% of the total dry mixture weight, depending on the specific application (e.g., tile adhesive, plaster, putty) and the desired viscosity grade. We recommend lab testing to optimize the formula.Q5. Does MHEC affect the final strength of cement-based products?
Properly used MHEC does not reduce the mechanical strength. On the contrary, by retaining water and ensuring complete cement hydration, it can contribute to higher early and ultimate strength, as well as improved cracking resistance.
